Interested in being a BlueHub clinician?

As BlueHub continues to grow, we’re looking to connect with clinicians who have experience working with Police, Emergency Services, or Australian Defence Force personnel, who use best-practice methods in the assessment and treatment of trauma and PTSD.

BlueHub offers evidence-based trauma treatment for mental health conditions arising from operational and organisational stressors experienced by police members. Across the state, a network of hospitals, private clinics, and private practitioners provide comprehensive assessment and treatment tailored specifically for police personnel.

Clinicians participating in the program receive training, supervision, and support to ensure that the care they deliver to BlueHub clients is both personalised and based on the latest evidence-based practices.

FAQs

What will I have access to as a BlueHub clinician?

Clinicians participating in the program receive ongoing training, supervision, and support to ensure that the care they deliver to BlueHub clients is both personalised and based on the latest evidence-based practices.

As a BlueHub clinician, you will have access to:

-  A steady flow of referrals: manage your caseload according to your capacity.

-  Complimentary specialised training: including online modules on Police Culture, Sleep, Anger, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).

-  Ongoing support and development: monthly clinician Community of Practice (CoP) meetings, featuring key guest speakers and two social events a year in East Melbourne.

-  A supportive and well-equipped network: join a community of experienced trauma specialists, with access to resources and professional support designed to help you grow in your practice while making a meaningful impact on the lives of those who serve our community.

Are there requirements to join?

To join BlueHub as a clinician, you’ll need to meet a few key requirements, these include:

-  Hold current AHPRA or AASW registration
-  Have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience treating trauma-related mental health conditions*
-  Have completed training in Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), or Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Before delivering BlueHub services, all clinicians are required to complete the online training modules, unless recognition of prior learning has been approved.

* Exceptions may apply – please contact the BlueHub team to discuss

Once onboarded as a clinician, you will be required to sign a Service Level Agreement, and complete various reporting requirements as outlined in the BlueHub Manual.

How does payment work?

BlueHub clients are typically on WorkCover or Comcare, so invoices will need to be sent to the respective insurers – we have also negotiated a slightly higher fee schedule for BlueHub, which will be shared when onboarding.

Otherwise, members are able to use a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), use private health, or pay out of pocket. If this is the case, it is requested that clinician fees are charged at the same rate as the BlueHub WorkCover fee rates, requiring members to pay the gap fee.

Is there any training or professional development available?

The BlueHub training program employs a blended learning model, in which BlueHub clinicians will be provided with both online and face-to-face learning opportunities. Face-to-face activities may occur in a traditional physical format, or on Microsoft Teams, depending on circumstance. The BlueHub program also aims to encourage learning via the Community of Practice (CoP) sessions.

The online BlueHub Portal provides clinicians with the tools and resources they will need in their BlueHub role, as well as providing specialised training in the skills and knowledge to prepare them for their role. Clinicians will find information about what to expect from the training and the CoP sessions.

Clinicians can work through the training program at their own pace (within the first four months of joining the program) and return to the portal whenever needed to access any of the tools or resources, or to refresh their understanding of any of the topics covered:

-  Orientation to Police Culture
-  PTSD Assessment and Treatment Planning
-  Multi-level Case Formulation for Complex Cases
-  CPT
-  Managing Problematic Anger
-  Treating Problematic Sleep

What treatment can I provide?

BlueHub clinicians must provide evidence-based treatment and delivered within an appropriate time frame. For treatment of PTSD, current evidence-based treatments are recommended in and described by the 2020 Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Acute Stress Disorder, PTSD, and Complex Trauma.

Recommended PTSD treatments include:

-  Prolonged Exposure (PE)
-  Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
-  Eye Movement and Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)
-  Trauma-focussed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT)
-  Trauma-focussed Cognitive Therapy
